Cash balance card
The card at the very top of the home screen — the first number the owner sees each day. It should answer one question at a glance: how much cash do I have?
Existing screen. Two figures at equal weight — an approximate "~$200" cash and a green "+$100" today — a warning-orange "Tap to count," and a cramped eye/chevron pair. Nothing says which number is the point.
Proposed screen. A MetricCard: one hero figure (Ks 8,400), today folded
in as a calm supporting trend (+Ks 3,500 today), a neutral "Count" action,
and the estimated state stated plainly. (The card is live.)
What changed.
- Two co-equal numbers became one hero figure, with today's change as a quiet supporting trend underneath — not a second headline.
- The approximate "~$200" became a definite figure plus an explicit "Estimated · counted yesterday" line, so uncertainty is labelled rather than smuggled into the number with a tilde.
- "Tap to count" in warning-orange became a neutral "Count" action — orange is for warnings, and needing a count isn't one.

Why it changed. A card with two equally-loud numbers makes the owner decide what it's about; a hero card answers instantly and lets today's take support it. A tilde in front of the headline number quietly says "this might be wrong" without saying why — labelling it estimated, with when it was last counted, is honest and calmer. And colouring a routine "count" prompt like a warning raises the temperature of a task that isn't urgent.
Which rule applies.
- One hero number per card — supporting figures are visibly secondary
(
MetricCard's trend), never a second headline. - Label uncertainty, don't encode it — say "estimated," don't hide a "~" in the value.
- Colour roles — orange/amber is for warnings; a routine action is neutral.
- Currency follows the user's locale, not USD.
User outcome. The owner glances once and reads "I have about Ks 8,400, up Ks 3,500 today" — and can count to confirm without being alarmed into it.
Edge case fixed. Balance not yet counted. The "Estimated · counted yesterday" line tells the owner exactly how trustworthy the number is and when it was last verified — instead of a bare tilde that raises doubt without context.
Give a card one hero number and let the rest support it. Label uncertainty in words ("estimated"), keep routine actions a neutral colour — never a warning — and format the value in the user's own currency.
